Training Application

Due by 5pm on Monday, September 28, 2015

The Intercultural Engagement Center invites you to apply for skill-based facilitator training with VT InterCom, a new program that will provide group dialogue opportunities for the Virginia Tech campus and surrounding community.

Skills: Group dialogue facilitator training provides participants with broadly applicable strategies, resources, and curriculum useful for the following:

  • Communication and Relationship Building
  • Raising Awareness
  • Education and Training
  • Consensus/Buy-In and Community Development

Objective: VT InterCom facilitators will gain knowledge, strategies, and practice at facilitating discussions around inclusion, equity, oppression, institutional discrimination, social inequalities, and a broad range of contemporary issues such as sexism, racism, trans*phobia, heterosexism, ableism, poverty, cultural intolerance, and more. Participants will obtain access to facilitator curriculum, receive mentoring from trainers, and will be invited to remain part of the VTInterCom facilitator collective.

VT InterCom Special Topics Courses: These trainings serve as the initial phase of a longer-term plan to host VT InterCom special-topics academic courses in which students can participate in semester-long group dialogue around pressing social issue. Facilitators who complete these initial trainings will be invited to co-propose and co-teach courses on related matters.

There is no fee required for participating in this training, however space is limited and participants will be asked to confirm their commitment to attend the training.
