Information Sheet for Participation in a Research Study
Principal Investigator: Dan Beal
IRB# and Title of Study: 21-328 Workplace Generativity Scale
Sponsor: none
You are invited to participate in a research study. This form includes information about the study and contact information if you have any questions.
I am a graduate student at Virginia Tech, and I am conducting this research as part of my curriculum work.
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?
If you decide to participate in this study, you will complete a survey. As part of the study, you will fill out questions about prosocial motives, helping behavior and occupational commitment via one Qualtrics survey. You will be asked to provide responses using a scale to indicate your level of agreement or disagreement with a series of statements.
The study should take less than 20 minutes of your time.
We do not anticipate any risks from completing this study.
The study will be focused on relationships with and toward your coworkers and colleagues in the workplace. As students whom also work, your most salient role might be school; if this is the case, you can use your school context and peers as the target of the questions where applicable.
You can choose whether to be in this study or not. If you volunteer to be in this study, you may withdraw at any time without consequences of any kind. The decision to participate or not participate will not influence your course grade or relationship with Virginia Tech in any way. You may also refuse to answer any questions you don’t want to answer and remain in the study. The investigator may withdraw you from this research if you are younger than 18 years old at the time of taking the survey.
This survey will ask you to answer a series of questions about your feelings and behaviors toward your peers as well as demographic questions. It is very important that we receive accurate data, and we appreciate your willingness to take the survey seriously and provide honest responses that accurately reflect your motives, behavior and commitment. Your responses will be treated as confidential; they will only be accessible to the research team and your responses will not be shared with anyone in your organization.
CONFIDENTIALITY
The Principal Investigator (PI) and Student Investigator (SI) will be the only people with access to the data secured by password-protected university systems in which the PI and SI utilize their authorization. We will follow protocol to protect the confidentiality of the information we gather from you, but we cannot guarantee 100% confidentiality.
No data stored and analyzed during this research study will be identifiable. The survey will collect your email address to check for duplicates and for extra credit where applicable.
