The Biocomplexity Institute of Virginia Tech, Virginia 4-H, and many other members of the Virginia Tech community are excited to announce our upcoming Kids' Tech University (KTU) semester! Volunteering for KTU is a great way to interact with kids and inspire them to become Hokies and our future scientists! KTU relies heavily on volunteers so we are asking for your help with our spring 2017 KTU events to be held at Virginia Tech. KTU volunteering is only open to current VT students, faculty, staff. Any time you can help us is greatly appreciated! There are a limited number of slots available and we'll do our very best to let everyone participate.
We need your help on any one or all of the following four dates: Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 18, and April 1, 2017. All events are on a Saturday on the Virginia Tech campus in Goodwin Hall, rm 190 and run from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the exception of January 21 KTU, which will have an afternoon portion at the Math Emporium till about 4 p.m. Goodwin Hall is located at 635 Prices Fork Road on the VT campus. The Math Emporium is located in the University Mal,l 801 University City Blvd. Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation.
At KTU, kids will participate in an interactive session/lecture with a renowned scientist. We need volunteers to supervise kids and to escort them to bathroom/water fountains. For the January 21 KTU, we’ll also need volunteers to guide the kids through an activity in the afternoon at the Math Emporium from approximately 12:30 – 4 p.m.
ALL VOLUNTEERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE RECEIVED VT's "Title IX and Sexual Abuse of Minors" training. Immediately before each event we will provide this training to anyone who has not received it. If you have previously received this training through KTU or any other VT department, you do not need it again. To qualify, any training must contain the segment on interactions with minors. This is a VT mandate; anyone who has not received it by the time they volunteer will not be allowed to volunteer, NO EXCEPTIONS.
To sign up, please complete the form below. We'll be in touch early spring semester with updates & event information.
KTU 2016 was a great time for everyone so mark your calendars and join us for more learning and fun in 2017! AND REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR HOKIE APPAREL!
